Nintendo Announces Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is coming! Coming just a few short days after the first 2021 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has surprised us with the Pokémon game we’ve been eagerly awaiting. A Pokémon RPG that, for the first time, appears to be fully open-world.

In the newly released trailer, we glimpse the Sinnoh region, the region north of Kanto where Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl’s events took place. Although during a time long before Pokémon Trainers and the Pokémon League. Featuring a small village and Pokémon wildlife, even the Poké Balls look different! The game itself is massive and beautiful—while watching the trailer, we couldn’t help noticing the similarities to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

No longer are you taken out of the game when exploring. Everything is now in real-time, from catching Pokémon to fighting them. We even got a glimpse of the starter Pokémon aiding us on our journey; Cyndaquill, Rowlet, and Oshawott.

Pokémon looks to be taking the series in a bold new direction with these changes. GAMEFREAK says that to catch Pokémon in the Pokémon Legends: Arceus game, we will need to observe each Pokémon’s behavior and be sneaky to secure them.

Lastly, we were introduced to Arceus, the legendary Pokémon that is the focus of this chapter. A Pokémon that shaped the modern world of Pokémon.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be available in early 2022.
